Think Anesthesia®: Anesthesia and the GI Tract

Think Anesthesia®: Anesthesia and the GI Tract details anesthesia and its effects on the gastrointestinal system. Within this RACE approved 1 hour, on-demand webinar, we identify symptoms and complications of anesthetic associated gastrointestinal disorders (GID) including gastroesophageal reflux, regurgitation, vomiting, and diarrhea. We explore which patients are at higher risk for GID associated with anesthesia. We review specific effects anesthetics have on the GI system, fasting recommendations and their impact on the occurrence of GID, drugs available to treat and mitigate GID associated with anesthesia during the peri-anesthetic period, and finally, the anesthetist’s role in preventing, monitoring and treating GID associated with anesthesia. Upon completion of this webinar, participants will understand the importance of recognizing and mitigating the risk of GID associated with anesthesia. This presentation is RACE approved for 1 CE credit for both veterinarians and technicians.

A short quiz will follow this webinar and is required to receive a continuing education certificate.
